General masters in parallel condensation of eigenvalue problems

چکیده
In the dynamic analysis of structures using nite element methods very often prohibitively many degrees of freedom are required to model the structure suuciently accurate. Condensation methods are often used to reduce the number of unknowns to manageable size. Substructuring and choosing the master variables as the degrees of freedom on the interfaces of the substructures yields data structures which are well suited to be implemented on parallel computers. In this paper we discuss the use of additional non nodal masters in sub-structuring. The data structure is preserved such that the condensed problem can be determined substructurewise.

متن کاملA Fully Parallel Condensation Method for Generalized Eigenvalue Problems on Distributed Memory Computers
For large-scale eigenvalue problems the authors introduced in 16] a coarse grained parallel algorithm for distributed memory computers based on sub-structuring and improved static condensation. It was observed that the load balancing may become unsatisfactory if the master problem and the problems corresponding to the substructures are of signiicantly diierent size. In this paper we improve the...
متن کاملImproved Dynamic Substructuring on
For solving the eigenvalue problem of a structural system having a large number of degrees of freedom the authors introduced in 6] the improved condensation method using the Rayleigh functional of the exactly condensed nonlinear eigenvalue problem. In this paper we discuss the implementation of the method for substructured problems on a distributed memory MIMD Computer. Examples are presented w...

Overview The Dagstuhl seminar was attended by 33 participants from four countries. The intention was to bring together scientists from the fields of Numerical Analysis, Computer Science, Engineering and Natural Sciences, respectively, in order to discuss the state of the art and future developments of parallel processing in the applied sciences. The meeting provided a forum of exchange between ...
متن کاملSolution of Large Eigenvalue Problems in ElectronicStructure Calculations
Predicting the structural and electronic properties of complex systems is one of the outstanding problems in condensed matter physics. Central to most methods used in molecular dynamics is the repeated solution of large eigenvalue problems. This paper reviews the source of these eigenvalue problems, describes some techniques for solving them, and addresses the diiculties and challenges which ar...
